Wage:

$17/hour

Hours:

25 hours/week

Duration:

10 Weeks

Reports To:

Executive Director

Overview:

Learn to supervise students navigating the world of Cultural Heritage Preservation.

Most people are familiar with the memorial at George Floyd Square in Minneapolis, MN. Behind the scenes, two of the critical actions in keeping the offerings safe for future generations are the practices of archiving and preservation. Here each offering is inspected, cleaned, housed and described so that no offering is lost whether it be in the conservation lab, in an exhibition, in storage, or in transit. As Team Lead, you will work with high school students learning navigate the stories of people impacted by state-sanctioned violence, the offerings and protest art laid at the memorial of George Floyd, and the process of retelling these stories. The primary focus this year will be documentary filmmaking of oral histories.

As Team Facilitator, you will support the interns as they work alongside professionals to learn about:

  • How history continues to be made right here in Minneapolis.
  • History keeping through archiving and cataloging.
  • Practical techniques to handle and preserve objects for the future.
  • Documenting narrative offerings and protest art with digital film and photography.
